Student Leadership at Belmont High School

Empowering students from Year 7 to Year 12

At Belmont High School, we believe every student has the potential to lead. Our Student Leadership Structure provides a clear and supportive pathway that enables students to grow as leaders throughout their secondary school journey – from Year 7 through to Year 12.

Designed to be sustainable, inclusive, and future-focused, our framework offers a wide range of leadership opportunities that strengthen student voice, foster collaboration, and encourage active participation in school life.

A pathway for every student

Belmont High School’s leadership pathway ensures that students can develop their skills progressively as they move through year levels. Whether students are stepping into leadership for the first time or taking on senior roles, the structure provides meaningful opportunities to contribute to school culture, represent their peers, and lead positive change.

Students can begin their leadership journey in Year 7 as Form Captains, broaden their impact as Student Representatives in Years 8-12, and aspire to Executive Leadership positions as they move into the middle and senior years.

Executive Student Leadership Team

The Executive Student Leadership Team leads whole-school initiatives, champions student voice, and mentors other leaders. These roles are central to shaping the student experience and strengthening our school community.

Executive Leadership roles include:

  • School Captains – Four Year 12 leaders who represent the school at major events, lead the Executive Student Leadership Team and the wider Student Leadership Team.
  • Intermediate Captains – Three to four Year 10 students who serve as members of the Executive Student Leadership Team.
  • Junior Captains – Three to four Year 8 students who serve as members of the Executive Student Leadership Team.

Student Leadership Team

The wider Student Leadership Team drives events, House spirit, community engagement, and student-led initiatives across the school. Working under the guidance of the Executive Team, these students help deliver programs and encourage participation among their peers.

The Student Leadership Team is comprised of:

  • International Student Captains – Two senior international students who advocate for and support our multicultural student community.
  • House Captains – Two Year 12 leaders per House who promote pride, participation and connection through House events and competitions.
  • Student Representatives – Approximately 30 students from Years 8–12 who contribute to whole-school events, fundraising, and community-based projects.
  • Year 7 Form Captains – One student per Form who supports class engagement and begins their leadership journey.

Opportunities and Selection

Leadership opportunities become available at different points in the year, giving students across all year levels a chance to be involved. Role descriptions, training opportunities and transparent selection processes help students understand expectations and grow their leadership capability.

Growing Leaders for the Future

Our Student Leadership Structure at Belmont High School is designed to remain strong and sustainable well into the future. By providing consistent opportunities and a clear pathway, we ensure that every student has a voice and a chance to contribute to a connected, inclusive and vibrant school community.

At Belmont High School, leadership is not just a title – it is a journey. We are proud to support our students as they develop the confidence, resilience and skills to make a meaningful impact now and into the future.
