Recently BHS hosted exchange students from Liceo Curiel in Italy. Among the activities during a busy stay, the exchange students and teachers, along with our VCE Italian students visited the Immigration Museum in Melbourne with Ms Cologni. The group also went on a walking tour of Carlton, to witness first hand the impact of Italian migration on the social fabric of Melbourne. The groups also were able to visit our exchange buddy school, Daylesford Secondary College. Having lunch at the Old Macaroni Factory and spending some time with the lovely Daylesford S.C. students and teachers.

Thank you to our wonderful Italian staff who not only make these opportunities become reality but also go above and beyond showcasing what Australian life is like.

Upstart Challenge 2017

On Thursday 21st June 2017 the Top 12 Big Ideas from the Geelong region were announced at the Gordon Gallery. 12 teams of young entrepreneurs from across the Geelong region’s high schools were awarded with $300 for their ‘Big Idea to positively change their world’ as part of the 2017 Upstart Challenge program.

Congratulations to the following Belmont High School teams for being short-listed and awarded $300.
Well done to:
John Thompson and Sam Nolan, Year 11 students.

Sam Nolan also received the 2017 Best digital idea winner - well done Sam!

Sam (with help from sister Tara Nolan) will be involved in the pitching showdown on August 28 in a bid to take out the title of best “Big Idea to Positively Change the World”.

Industry and community sponsors presented teams with their awards in front of an audience of mentors, parents and school representatives.

John and Sam will be supported with intensive mentoring workshops to develop their ideas further and learn valuable business and pitching skills. We wish you both all the very best!

Rosetta Pugh accepted the award and a 3D printer for ‘2017 School with the most entries’ on behalf of Belmont High School. She also received flowers in recognition of ‘2017 Best School Champion winner’.
